If you’ve visited Bali, I’m sure you’ve dined at an authentic Indonesian restaurant at least once.
Warungs
The small, mostly family-owned eateries – also called Warungs – are dotted across the island. They offer a wide range of cuisines from Indonesian to Chinese to Japanese. But since we’re in Bali, we might as well indulge in authentic home-made style Indonesian dishes, right?
During this trip, I’ve been to quite a few ‘Warungs’ across the island. However, none of them matched the healthy and nutritious options at Warung Ocha in Seminyak. It was recommended to me by a local who actually grew up in Bali. This spacious and warmly decorated spot was truly unique.
Warung Ocha
As with most Warung-style restaurants, you get to choose your meal components from a variety of healthy and home-style dishes. Warung Ocha certainly has a diverse salad counter to choose from. The options included cous-cous, sweet potato quinoa, tofu with bean sprouts and raw vegetable summer rolls.
Confession: I actually liked the food so much that I went for a second plate as a main course. For the encore round, I sampled some of the hot dishes like grilled vegetables, carrots and peas, pumpkin gratin (to die for) and some sautéed leafy greens.
What makes this ‘Warung’ worth a visit is the healthy, clean concept for all its salads and main dishes. There’s lots of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options to choose from. In addition, they have a great selection of spicy and sweet sauces and condiments that add flavor and richness to any culinary experience.
