Bangkok Travel Stories Update
I don’t know about you but I’ve been feeling extremely discombobulated and disoriented lately. I think it’s because there are five planets in Retrograde these days. I can’t seem to focus on anything and I’ve been struggling to write for the past few weeks.
My last story from my summer Bangkok trip was about the Tuk Tuk scam – you can read it here.
While scrolling through the photos from my Bangkok trip to decide on what to write about next, I realized that most of my memories from that city were truly unpleasant. And that’s probably the main reason why I still didn’t blog that much about my experiences.
It seems like each picture on my phone album from that trip is connected to a bad memory or story! Seriously, that trip (and destination) was so misaligned with my personality and soul essence. But since I have some interesting things to share, I will still write blog posts about the highlights or experiences that I think would be useful for others to know.
And one of these experiences is the Bangkok Secret Food Tours that I joined in my first week in the city.
Secret Food Tours Bangkok
I honestly wish that I discovered this food tour company before my Naples trip. They have real and authentic food tours in all the major cities around the world. And I only found out about them recently – luckily before my Thailand trip.
With Secret Food Tours, you book a food tour and pay online. The meeting point for the tour is sent to your email and you’re contacted by the guide on the day. They are very organized and they answered all my questions about food dietary restrictions like gluten and dairy intolerances.
And because attending food tours is one of the activities that I would continue doing when I meet my person, I decided to book a tour for my first week in Bangkok. And I’m so glad that I did.
This story goes back to explain manifesting from the energy of being instead of waiting or wanting. You can read more about this manifestation tip in this blog post.
And if you want to get a feel of Secret Food Tours, you can check out their Instagram stories. They regularly share experiences from all around the world on there and I just wish I could join them all!
Apart from exploring the Thai street food scene in China Town, visiting a Chinese temple and walking around the busy streets of that neighborhood, we also got a piece of paper with the names of the dishes we had in both Thai and English.
My favorite dish from my entire Thailand trip (and the one that I ate almost daily in Bangkok) was Pad Kra Prow. I loved the ground beef version and I made it a couple of times at home when I got back to Dubai. It’s such a simple dish made with fresh chilis and Thai basil (or regular basil) but so full of flavor and very tasty!
We started the Secret Food Tours with a really yummy Pad Kra Prow with chicken. I loved learning about all the spices and toppings that you can add to any Thai dish for a kick of spice and depth of flavor.
To me, learning about Thai culture through its food was the best part about this tour. I also learned that I should eat with a spoon and use the fork to help scoop the food onto the spoon at this tour. I continue to eat all my homemade Asian dishes this way and I just love it!
The famous Thai papaya salad was my favorite dish from the tour. It was so fresh, spicy and rich in flavor. I actually managed to finish my dish even though the salad was super spicy. You can request the number of chilis that you want to be added and the American couple who was with me got brave with their choice!
They struggled to eat their salad as it was too spicy for them! They couldn’t finish it while I did and we both shared the same salad that the local woman made. So funny!
Would I book this type of tour again in another city? Absolutely!
I actually regret that I don’t plan to travel to any big city anytime soon, because Secret Food Tours are only available in big cities and not in a place like Bali for example.
I’ll share with you more photos of my favorite Thai street food dish in the upcoming stories from Thailand. Trust me, today’s blog post is one of the rare ‘happy’ and ‘light’ stories from that trip!
Check out my favorite photos from that Bangkok Secret Food Tour – all raw and with no filters.
Love,
Leela
