How to Spend Half a Day in Nusa Dua

Why Nusa Dua?

The best part about Nusa Dua for me is not the upscale resorts or the swimmable beaches. It’s the long, walkable promenade and ease of access that keeps me coming back.

If you’ve visited or stayed in Uluwatu, you will notice that it can be challenging to find a spot that’s good for walking. The beaches that are great for walking in Uluwatu (mainly Nyang Nyang Beach) aren’t easily accessible. And the areas – like Pecatu Graha – where walking is easy have many stray dogs walking around as well and barking.

And this is why I like to visit Nusa Dua for a long walk along the Peninsula Island promenade and the ITDC area. There’s a seven kilometer-long coastal path with a long, smooth pavement, that’s great for walking, jogging or cycling. You can feel the ocean breeze and have a nice, easy walk. Just make sure to get there early, preferably at 8:00 or 9:00 am to start walking and finish before it gets too hot.

I recently went to the immigration office in Nusa Dua for a visa extension appointment and that’s what inspired me to share with you my favorite places and activities at this touristy five-star resort town.

Breakfast at DUA Kafe

After my immigration office visit, I had breakfast at DUA Kafe near Bali Collection. It was my first time there and I was honestly impressed. The cafe is small and cozy so it’s best to get there early to find a table and sit comfortably.

I ordered the curry scrambled eggs that came with gluten-free pita bread! I enjoyed the breakfast so much that I plan to go back whenever I’m looking for a good breakfast in the area.

Indonesian Lunch at Backstage Food Theatre

I was craving for a really good Nasi Goreng that day and I’m so glad that I spent hours researching a spot so you don’t have to!

After a lot of research, I decided to go to the Renaissance Bali Nusa Dua’s all-day dining restaurant for a late lunch.

The Beef Rendang Nasi Goreng was cooked to perfection and I requested the green chili sambal on the side. Such a lovely meal and I would definitely go back there next time.

The shrimp rice paper rolls were also good but it was the Nasi Goreng Rendang that was a hit.

Nasi Goreng Kambing at Tropical Restaurant

I was looking for another good spot to have Nasi Goreng Kambing or lamb fried rice in Nusa Dua and I came across Tropical Restaurant. The place is located on a main street and you can sit in a zen garden or in the semi-indoor area.

I would say that the quality of the lamb was average but Tropical is a good choice if you’re on a budget.

I truly enjoyed my late lunch there and the food was made fresh, so it took some time to come out of the kitchen.

If you’re looking for a casual spot to have lunch in a main street in Nusa Dua, then this place is a great choice!

Bonus Things to Do in Nusa Dua

Apart from walking or jogging along the coastal path in the ITDC area, you can do water sports or even paragliding at the beach.

I shared about Gunung Payung beach in this blog post and how it’s located next to the paragliding beach in Nusa Dua.

Another thing I would love to do is go to Nusa restaurant at Bali Collection for dinner on a Friday, when they have live jazz.

The restaurant serves Western food only but the standard is good and I honestly miss going somewhere with live jazz music.

I plan to share more Travel Tuesday stories with Bali insider tips so stay tuned!

Leaving you with some snap shots from a nice, long walk at the beach in Nusa Dua.
