Bangkok Trip Stories
In last week’s Thursday Thoughts blog post, I shared about how my Bangkok trip helped me see clearly who I was in essence. Despite being a totally misaligned destination, it was a breakthrough milestone in my self-discovery journey.
You can read that story here.
The Tip of the Iceberg
If you asked me about that one moment that made me realize how much my personality doesn’t match big city vibe and energy, then let me share that story with you today.
In my last week in Bangkok, I stayed at a hotel located in a residential area for mostly Western expats. Of course, there are locals around and many sell food and other stuff at the stalls. But the area didn’t have any skyscrapers and that’s unusual for a city like Bangkok.
I actually decided to book the hotel after reading a positive review that mentioned the unique location in a residential neighborhood. It’s also a luxury boutique hotel part of a big hotel chain group. And I love small luxury hotels, so the hotel choice was a great match to my style and personality.
I will share more details about the hotel and how I spent my time in Bangkok soon.
Towards the end of my stay, I was at the breakfast restaurant. The breakfast is a semi-buffet style one. You can order as many dishes you like from the menu. And there were some extra hot meals and salads at the buffet.
I was at the buffet, helping myself to some potato salad. When a woman (she was a mother with kids and sitting in a nearby table) stood next to me waiting to get some salad. She was waiting impatiently to take from the same salad that I was helping myself to. After a few moments, she looked up to the sky in a very rude and impatient way (as if her precious time is being wasted while waiting for me to finish taking salad).
Because I did so much healing work (and particularly the energy healing work that I share more about in my upcoming ebook), I automatically started to put extra potato salad in my plate just to take longer and not be rushed to finish. I honestly did that without thinking (the energy healing work that I did was very powerful).
That moment at the hotel’s breakfast buffet was the tip of the iceberg. It was the aha moment that made me realize how much I hated not only city life but mostly city people.
This same scenario happened to me in Dubai many times in the past. While standing at the grocery store’s weighing station to get my fruits or vegetables weighed by a staff member, there’s always an impatient ‘city person’ standing there impatiently, making all sorts of rude gestures as if their precious time was wasted by waiting for my produce to be weighed.
After the incident at the Bangkok hotel, I felt grateful for that Asian woman (not sure which country she was from) and her noisy/misbehaved kids. She was the epitome of a city personality profile and she helped me greatly in discovering how much of a hippie I am and how much I hate city life and the people who follow that lifestyle.
I wanted to share this story because sometimes, people wonder about how they can find their true self from under the family and societal conditioning.
Well, sometimes you just have to travel a lot and explore various destinations. To me, this included traveling to a city with an 11,234,000 population and pure city people living in it to understand my true self.
Next week, I will share about how sometimes the Universe has to give you the lesson in the hard way – when you don’t get it from smaller incidents.
